Successful Registrations
Registration for community housing organisations is instrumental in driving innovative and long term solutions for the community housing sector. There are three levels of registration: Growth Providers, Preferred Providers and Third Tier Registered Providers. Profiles of organisations that have successfully registered can be found below.
Growth Providers
To date, the following five organisations have successfully registered as Growth Providers:
Access Housing Australia Ltd (AHA)
General Manager: Steph Carlyon
Access Housing Australia Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation that formed after the merger of Fremantle Housing Association, South City Housing and the Milligan Foundation in 2006. As of January 2010, AHA has a property portfolio of 856 units, providing housing for a range of target groups including over 55s, migrants and refugees, youth, indigenous peoples, women escaping domestic violence and others with physical or intellectual disabilities. Earlier this year AHA Ltd was granted the status of Regional Provider for the south west region of Western Australia.

Bethanie Group Inc – previously known as Churches of Christ Homes – currently manages 658 seniors units and a range of aged care hostels and nursing homes. Bethanie Housing Ltd (BHL) was established as a subsidiary company of Bethanie Group Inc to develop and manage their community housing business.
Community Housing Limited (CHL)

Committed to the provision of affordable and sustainable housing for everyone, the Victorian based Community Housing Limited (CHL) has acquired more than 2000 properties under rental management since opening its doors in 1994. As the first Australian community housing organisation to operate nationally and internationally, CHL brings a wealth of experience to the West Australian community housing sector. CHL has an interest in Indigenous housing and housing in rural and remote areas of Western Australia.

For over 35 years Freemasons WA has been providing accommodation and care for the West Australian community. In the last decade Freemasons WA has been a substantial shift towards aged care and retirement village accommodation. Freemasons WA and the Department of Housing have been working together for almost three decades in the joint pursuit of providing housing to seniors.

In 2006, the Eastern Metropolitan Community Housing Association officially amalgamated with Perth Inner City Housing Association and Northside Housing Association to form Foundation Housing Limited. FHL currently manages over 1000 units of community housing, catering for a broad range of target groups. Having over 20 years experience in managing boarding houses, FHL are the second largest provider in Australia of this type of accommodation. Recently FHL established a base in Broome and will develop a range of social and affordable key worker housing projects.

SCCWA Ltd – a subsidiary of Southern Cross Care WA Inc – operates eight retirement villages in the metropolitan area, as well facilities in Bunbury, Collie and Broome. Although not previously involved in community housing, the parent company has a strong track record in the development and management of seniors housing. Two community housing projects are under development with SCCWA Ltd on land provided by the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth in Embleton and Dianella.
Preferred Providers
Currently there are eleven organisations that have been registered as Preferred Providers:
President: Peter Knowles
Officially formed in 1951 as the Slow Learning Children’s Group by the parents of intellectually disabled children, Activ Foundation has grown to become the largest provider of services to people with disability in Western Australia.
Chief Executive Officer: David Fenwick
Taking its name from the Nyoongar Aboriginal term meaning “beautiful resting place”, Amaroo’s foundation dates back to the late 1960s. Amaroo focuses on residential aged care and independent living services.
Chief Executive Officer: Ray Glickman
Formerly known as Anglican Homes Inc, Amana Living Inc is involved in the development and service of senior’s villages. Amana Living villages provide residents with easy access to friendship and social activities, as well as houses.

Dating back to the 1940s, Centrecare has developed a strong reputation for delivering crisis accommodation and community housing. Centrecare aims “to be an example of unconditional care in action.”
Hills Community Support Group (HCSG)
Chief Executive Officer: Helen Dullard
In 1983, a small group of volunteers established the Hills Community Support Group. HCSG is dedicated to helping a wide range of people, including elderly, youth at risk, people with disabilities and carers.

The Salvation Army is one Australia’s largest welfare providers. Salvo Housing – a division of the Salvation Army – manages properties throughout the metropolitan area connected to the various social programmes run by the Salvation Army.

Established in 1963 to provide for the care, maintenance, welfare and integration of homeless men, St. Bartholomew’s House Inc runs several hostels to employ a holistic service benefitting homeless men.

With origins dating as far back as 1830, Uniting Care West has long been serving the West Australian public. In partnership with the Department of Housing, Uniting Care West provides supported community living options for people with intellectual disabilities.
Chief Executive Officer: Vaughn Harding
In 1949, Hardey Lodge opened its doors as a “home for aged women” and became the first Uniting Church Homes aged care facility. Over 60 years later, Uniting Church Homes has grown into one of Perth’s largest aged care service providers.

Vincentcare has been catering to the needs of people with mental illness, the homeless, the disadvantaged and those leaving institutional care since opening their first house in 1996. Since then, Vincentcare has established itself as a leading housing organisation providing accommodation and “support with dignity.”
Great Southern Community Housing Association (GSCHA)
Chief Executive Officer: Kaz Sternberg
Based in Albany, Great Southern Community Housing Association (GSCHA) provides generic housing for low income tenants, as well as housing for those with physical and psychiatric disabilities. A website link will be provided in the near future.

Agencies for South West Accommodation Inc
Chief Executive Officer: Neil Hampton
Known within the community housing sector as ASWA, Agencies for South West Accommodation provides Crisis Accommodation across the south west of WA. As well as providing housing services, the Bunbury based ASWA also have various other services targeting the personal development of clients.
Chief Executive Officer: Ian Carter
In the early 1970s, Archbishop Geoffrey Sambell envisioned the development of the Anglican Church’s social services delivery. Anglicare WA is the result of that early vision, which now covers a wide variety of services, including a key focus on community housing.

Established in 1901, Brightwater Care Group – formally known as the Homes Of Peace – are one of the largest and oldest providers of residential care for the chronically ill, disabled and the aged in Western Australia.
Bunbury Housing Association Inc (BHA)

Over ten years ago, Bunbury Housing Association was formed to address a lack of affordable, secure housing in the south west of Western Australia. They now manage properties for a broad range of clientele in the south west.

Communicare Inc’s Breathing Space Program provides accommodation and support in order to break the cycle of domestic violence.
Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA
Chief Executive Officer: Marcus Stafford
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA provides accommodation and support services to persons suffering from Multiple Sclerosis.
Manager: Maria Ewen
Established in 1991 to support people with disabilities and their families, Nascha exists for anyone with physical, sensory or intellectual disabilities who is seeking greater independence. Nascha offers a wide range of services including accommodation support, personal care and independent living training.

Outcare Inc provides short term accommodation and crisis accommodation to ex-offenders and their families, in order to help them find their feet after time in prison.
Swan Emergency Accommodation Inc (SEA)

Swan Emergency Accommodation Inc provides crisis accommodation and medium term housing, as well as various other services, to clients who are at a difficult point in their life.
